(Independent Library)

A grant from the governor in 1973 helped to establish the first library in Millsboro. The Millsboro Public Library opened on December 6, 1973 in large part due to the efforts of Ethel Timmons and Virginia Frazier of the Millsboro Women's Civic Club.

The library was originally located on Main Street in a small brick building. The building had previously functioned as a post office and a dress shop before becoming the library.

The current library building on State Street was completed in 1997 and opened its doors to the townspeople of Millsboro on October 6, 1997.

Key Individuals

Ethel Timmons and Virginia Frasier of the Millsboro Women's Club helped establish the first library in Millsboro during the early 1970's.

Mrs. Emma McCabe was the first employee of the Millsboro Public Library.
